A few people understand Bourbon, some know their Scotch, and others can spout-off about gin for hours on end, but when faced with a blathering spirits windbag, ask him about pisco and watch his face drop.
I don’t really know all that much about pisco either. Spell-check doesn’t even recognize the word. For starters, it’s brandy made from grapes (some of you realize that’s redundant, but not everyone does) in Peru or Chile. It’s also delicious, and has a taste unlike any of the big 5 spirits (gin,rum, tequila, vodka, whiskey) to which we are accustomed.
This Saturday at 15 Romolo, as part of SF Cocktail Week, Duggan McDonnell, founder of Encanto Pisco will engage in conversation with Gerry Schweitzer, founder of Leblon (oh, you don’t know what cachaÃ§a is either?) about the emerging trends in South American spirits and cocktails here in the States.Â A mere $25 gets you in the door and cocktail in your hand (as well as tastes of Encanto and Leblon) for what is sure to be a lively and fascinating discussion, moderated by this guy.
