One of the most successful events at Portland Cocktail Week was Friday’s March for Mezcal, sponsored by Ilegal Mezcal.  I personally painted 92% of the signs for the protest that you will see in the pictures I took. I am particularly proud of my agave plant, the worm and “KEEP YOUR LAWS OFF MY LIQUOR!”

The event was a response to the difficulties faced by Oregon residents whose liquor industry is strictly controlled by the state government.  Mezcal is available for special order, but you can’t simply walk into a liquor store and buy a bottle. We must have caused quite a stir, because the OLCC responded immediately on Twitter and posted a response on their website the next day.

Note:  I know how to spell “illegal” but we had some fun with the name of our sponsoring brand.
