The bitterness of the first batch of Rock and Rye could stand to be tempered with more sweet and fruit flavors, so I took a different tack the second time around. I used X-Rated, a tropical liqueur with blood orange, mango and passion fruit flavors,I zested the lemon in larger pieces, and left out sliced fruit until service.
Rock and Rye 2
- 2 cups Wild Turkey Rye
- 1/2 cup X-Rated liqueur
- 1 lemon, zested and juiced
- 1/4 cup raw sugar
- 1/4 cup rock sugar
- Combine rye, X-Rated, zest, juice and raw sugar.
- Stir and let sit overnight, or until sugar dissolves.
- Strain out zest, and return to bottle with rock sugar.
